The Assignment Phototeam

What will 2020VISION be doing?

As well as capturing the exceptional landscape of the Ennerdale Valley and the wider Lake District National Park, our team will also be focused on specific projects that includes the restoration of England's only migratory arctic charr population, Atlantic oak woodlands restoration, freshwater pearl mussels, enhancement of sub-alpine meadows and restructuring of the conifer woodlands.

When will 2020VISION be there?

  • 10th to 11th November 2011

Where is it?

Ennerdale is a remote valley situated in the Lake District National Park in West Cumbria, around 10 miles inland of the coast at Whitehaven.

Why is it important?

The Ennerdale valley is home to some of England's most vibrant natural environments and one of the longest running wild land restoration projects in the UK. The Wild Ennerdale Pasrtnership is allowing the landscape to evolve naturally with reduced human intervention.

What's the project's aim?

The vision is to allow the evolution of Ennerdale as a wild valley for the benefit of people, relying more on natural processes to shape its landscape and ecology. A stewardship plan that details the project's objectives in regard to farming, forestry, natural processes, recreation and tourism, transport and water extraction can be downloaded here.

Who's involved?

Wild Ennerdale is a partnership between people and organisations led by The National Trust, The Forestry Commission and United Utilities,  the primary land owners in The Ennerdale Valley and Natural England, the Government's advisor on the environment.

What's happening there?

The Partnership is focused on two principal activities - reducing and removing features and activities that detract from the sense of wildness and inhibit natural processes, and ensuring that natural processes are operating at their most functional and introducing missing natural features where they are not represented already.
