Rob Jordan
Passionate about wildlife since childhood, I’ve lived all my life in Northumberland, a fantastic place to foster a love for the ‘great outdoors.’ I soon realised, in all its complexities, everything in nature is connected and nothing should be seen in isolation. A later interest in photography created a wonderful synergy, developing into an absorbing ‘symbiotic’ relationship.
During my Police career I was involved in direct conservation and saw appalling damage to wildlife, witnessing the worst side of contact between humans and nature. Wildlife photography is perhaps an antidote to these experiences and a means of expressing my view of our surroundings. I also know that dedicated individuals can make a positive difference – perhaps exemplified by personal photographic work whilst protecting Black-necked Grebes from egg collectors in Northumberland. In little over two years the ‘Firey Eyes’ project doubled the UK population of this rare bird.
My wildlife photography has taken me to over 30 countries and I have received several awards in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, including winning the British category. I have also judged and featured in a BBC series about the competition. I’ve been privileged to display and talk about my work internationally but have always been low-key in showcasing my imagery, preferring to communicate personally and to work simply on long-term projects.
I see an exciting future in collaborations through 2020VISION, where distinctive stories and messages, that influence us all, can be conveyed widely and effectively.
