Terry Whittaker
I am an environmental photographer with a background in zoos, wildlife conservation and research.
After several years travelling and working overseas on various projects I returned home, as Eliot said, ‘to know the place for the first time’. A turning point in my attitude to man’s place in nature came when I spent time in the forest with hunter-gatherer people totally dependent on their subsistence skills and whose every need, until recently, was provided by their environment. My main interests are the relationship between people and wild animals (negative and positive) and the need to find room for nature all around us, not just in reserves and “special places”. What if every urban park and new building had to make provision for birds, bats and bees?
I am honoured and excited to have won the opportunity to be involved in 2020VISION, which places communication through images at the heart of ecosystem conservation.
