Red grouse on heather moorland, Peak District National Park.

My passion for wildlife photography grew from my many childhood explorations of the British Isles, and the realisation that there are so many exciting wildlife spectacles right here on our doorstep.

So far I have focused almost exclusively on the British Isles in my career, and I continue to be amazed by our wealth of wildlife. Sometimes I think we don’t see what’s under our noses; indeed, I find that my images communicate and resonate most powerfully with people when they discover that they were taken in their own National Parks and nature reserves.

This led me to work closely with the RSPB and several Wildlife Trusts to provide images that do exactly this: open people’s eyes to the beauty of our natural heritage. Just as I believe a great image can communicate powerfully, so the power of conservation depends so much on powerful communication. This is why the 2020VISION project means so much to me.

Britain’s ecosystems are just as fragile, and just as threatened, as those of Amazonas or Antarctica. If the 2020VISION project helps people to understand this, and to get involved, it will be a big success.
