Fergus Gill
Seventeen year old Fergus Gill lives in rural Perthshire, Scotland. His interest in photography started when aged nine, sparked by his father who always encouraged him to take photographs. In 2004 this interest developed into a passion when he won the 11-14 year category in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition with a photograph of the Aurora borealis. Having this success inspired him to turn photography into a full time hobby, something he has continued to enjoy ever since.
He is a three time category winner in the junior section of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and has also had a highly commended image. In 2009 he was named the Veolia Environment Young Wildlife Photographer of the year and winner of the GDT Fritz Polking Junior award. His other successes include the 2008 Young Garden Photographer of the Year, having a Highly Honoured image in the Nature Best Competition and winning the RSPB’s Under 18 Goldeneye Award. Over the past six years he has also won multiple awards in the Scottish secondary schools Focus Environment photography competition.
Living in an area surrounded by arable farmland, woodland and moorland he has plenty of opportunities to get out and experience nature first hand. He is truly passionate about the natural world and strives to capture this through his photography.
